Standards Testing Labs designed the Road Hazard Impact Machine following SAE spec J1981. The SAE standard was written to provide uniform test conditions for evaluating the effect of road hazards, such as curbs or potholes, on tire/wheel systems. This machine can be designed to meet custom specifications to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Features:
  • An adjustable support base for proper alignment of test product to the pendulum
  • A clutch brake system for lifting and releasing the pendulum 
  • Electrically actuated disc brake system designed to prevent rebound impacts to the tire
  • Multiple striker heads designed of nodular iron – to SAE J1981 specs.
  • Adjustable strike height & angle to simulate off-center strikes for a wide range of obstructions
Capabilities:
  • Can accommodate various outside diameters 
  • Wheel assembly holding fixture is designed with screw-type adjustments of up to 6 inches for varying rim widths and offsets

  • Maximum rim diameter: 40 in (1016mm)
  • Pendulum length (to striker) 72 in ( 1828.8MM) (Adjustable to 2082.8mm)

  • Drop mass: 53 to 85 kg
  • Striker adjustments: 
  • X-axis +/- 30 degrees
  • Z-axis +/- 42 degrees (optional item)
